What Our Scholars Say
Our scholars bring travel health to more travellers. We award scholarships to doctors and nurses from countries where travel medicine is an emerging specialty. Our scholars introduce travel health services and improve health standards in their community, benefitting local patients and travellers alike.

The scholarship has helped me immensely in broadening my knowledge and expertise in travel medicine, and it has equipped me with the confidence and skills to independently practice as a travel medicine specialist in Kenya.
Paul Yonga, Kenya
2019 IAMAT Scholar

I have learnt to consider issues such as the destination-specific epidemiology of the disease, duration of exposure to the infective mosquito bites as well as factors that can potentially affect the immune response of the traveller. These factors are necessary to enable me to decide on whether to provide the yellow fever vaccine or not… to avoid potential serious side effects from the vaccine.
Gordon Amoh, Ghana
2021 IAMAT Scholar

The course and clinical observations have given me a broader knowledge of travel medicine, and I will now be able to provide comprehensive and detailed travel medicine advice and services to my patients. Further, I am now better positioned to provide educational resources to my patients and direct them to information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their health and travel.
Yetunde Fadipe, Nigeria
2018 IAMAT Scholar

Now, with the knowledge from the SLAMVI course, reinforced with the advanced travel medicine course at LSHTM and the clinical observations at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases and NaTHNaC, I have a broader perspective on the most relevant approaches to advising patients during a pre- and post-travel consultation in order to offer better medical services.
Alvaro Faccini, Colombia
2023 IAMAT Scholar

The most important aspect I took away from the course was the possibility to get to know colleagues from all over the world and to share with them the different ways to solve clinical situations. The clinical observation period was a way to take in to the practice the concepts we learned in the course the week before, and to see the management of the consultations online made by the specialized nurses.
Maria Florencia Prieto, Argentina
2024 IAMAT Scholar

What I liked most about the course were the discussions of real cases in pre-travel consultations and addressing post-travel illnesses. I learned how to run a travel clinic, including specialized software to make consultations easier and to improve the quality of clinical practice.
Walaa Shabana, Egypt
